Talking About Architecture and Design Review at City Club of Portland’s Friday Forum Gwen Millius I have had the privilege of sitting on the City of Portland’s Design Commission since October of 2006. The Design Commission does a number of things around the City of Portland, but chief among them is reviewing and approving major developments in Portland’s design districts. It’s time consuming, occasionally frustrating, mentally taxing, and I absolutely love it. I love it because despite the long hearings, the occasional “how many angels fit on the head of a pin” debates, and the frustrations inherent in squeezing good architecture out of tight budgets and schedules, we sometimes have a chance to make Portland a better place, brick by brick.
